End of A Long Journey

I chucked the lesson plans for today and discussed the election with the students. Should have planned to do so all along. We watched John McCain's concession speech, part of Barack Obama's victory speech and CNN Student News. I'd heard some commentary on the way into work, referencing a certain "Lincolnesque" quality of McCain's speech. What I was most moved by was the acknowledgment by both that America is unique in history and offers opportunityfor success and individual achievement unlike almost any other. I was most inspired by McCain's comment "Whatever our differences, we are fellow Americans. And please believe me when I say No association has ever meant more to me than that."
