The Greater Wisconsin Committee is running an ad accusing David Prosser of ignoring and failing to prosecute a priest accused of sexually abuse who subsequently abused more children. Impromptus

This post is something of a catch-all for several different topics rolling around my head. I've titled it Impromptus in honor of Jay Nordlinger over at National Review Online, and his column of the same format.

* Did you hear that Barrack Obama confided to aides that it would be easier to govern if he were President of China? I don't know exactly what to say to that, so I'll just let it hang there for you all to look at and marvel. Anyone find it interesting that it's only Democrats who ever envy the governing ease that a totalitarian system provides?

I don't remember hearing that Scott Walker envied the ease with which he could have passed his bill if he were a pol in Communist China, National Socialist German Worker's Party Germany (You now, the Nazis. When you know where their name comes from, the Nazis don't resemble anything on the "right" do they?), or the European Union where what Brussels wants, Brussels gets even if the regular people disagree. Insert brussel sprouts joke here.

I've posted quite a bit as of late about politics, which I tend not to do. As a substitute teacher, I spend my days as a stranger in several different schools. Almost no one knows me, and I know no one really well, so I don't share anything that might expose me as a right-wing nut, and therefore undesirable as a future colleague. I do spend a lot of time listening, especially as teachers discuss (sometimes rant and fume about) Scott Walker and his legislation.

I've come to believe that a lot - not all, but a large number - of teachers seem to believe teaching is set-apart from the other, lesser, careers one could choose, and they see themselves as "change agents". They are secular missionaries to the young; it is their life's purpose to educate the future generations, bringing them up with appropriate, modern, need I say, liberal beliefs.

Like the corrupt clergy of the Dark Ages, they believe they were "chosen" for a noble task and to question them is to question God. Like the Jedi of the Old Republic, they are blinded. Only it isn't Darth Sidious and the dark side of the Force, it's their own messianic beliefs about their societal importance.

Keeping Wisconsin Great

According to poll links at RealClearPolitics, the country either opposes eliminating collective bargaining rights 62-33 or supports limiting bargaining rights 45-42. I dunno, that doesn't seem to make sense. I'm more inclined to believe Quinnipiac's latter numbers as they seem more in line with the deep partisan division we seem to have, although the first is a NBC/WSJ pairing (I trust the Wall Street Journal more than NBC). To be honest, I don't think most people know what collective bargaining actually entails, or that federal government employees are denied this "right" and had their incomes unilaterally frozen last year by Pres. Obama in a cost-saving (everyone has to suffer together) move. Maybe Scott Walker would like that ability too. Speaking of Scott...
