Today is Primary Day in Wisconsin, and as US citizen and a (future) Social Studies teacher, I did my civic duty and voted. I mean, hundreds of thousands of our soldiers have died to give us the ability to choose our national leader based on such lofty criteria as; recent weather, handshake-strength, good looks, how I think the economy and job outlooks is, how inspirational he/she is, how good he/she makes me feel about myself, and, if none of these gets you then, perhaps the boring stuff like what they actually plan to do if elected.Considering all these things, it was a little tough - the weather's been kinda crappy as of late - but since none of the people running is currently President, and you know behind the curtain pulling levers and spinning wheels on that global warming machine, I really can't hold it against them. I haven't had the opportunity to rate a handshake, nor are any of them very impressive as a physical specimen. Now on the job outlook (I just got my first rejection of the '08 season, and I must say it's nice to have that out of the way) things aren't too rosy. But it really isn't anyone else's fault but my own (and a hundred-jillion other prospective Social Studies teachers) that my field of expertise is currently well overstocked and also facing a withering demand amid plummeting budgets.
I'm also, unfortunately, rather BS-immune. So I'm not really looking to be inspired about myself or a vague reference to bringing our country back to its' former greatness and worldwide prominence, as I am interested to know what qualifications the candidate brings to the job. (As a side-note, perhaps I should quit talking so much about me and my qualifications in all these applications, and instead mention how stunning are my looks, the firmness of my handshake, and lastly how good it will make you feel to hire me to come in and change the dead-end direction of your school.) A policy wonk, though, is what I am. So I decided, based on polling data comparing voter support of the viable candidates, to cross party lines and vote for the person I deemed a weaker general election opponent. Good luck to them all though, and make sure you all go out and vote. Even if you have no idea who you're voting for.
