Well Private Practice barely redeemed itself tonight. I don't watch, but my wife does so that means I get to listen. I won't dwell on the fact that it and its sister-show Grey's Anatomy are essentially a soft-core porn soap opera posing as a drama. No, rather let's discuss tonight's show.
In it, Naomi and her former husband, what's his name, discover their 15 year old daughter Maya is, you guessed, pregnant. Well Mom goes nuts insisting Maya must get an abortion. Understandably the kid is confused, 'cuz you see up until this point mom has told her life begins at conception. But apparently not when it's a "so-called life" developing inside your 15 year old daughter that is going to just ruin the rest of her life.
So Maya asks Addison, who is going to perform the murder, I mean abortion, what she thinks. Well, we've presented the pro-life, I mean anti-choice, point of view so Addison is the pro-choice, I mean pro-infanticide POV, and she trots out the tripe about how a baby cannot survive outside the mother, so it isn't alive until birth. There are so many holes in this I won't bother. By the way, if this is the "choice" I'm against, I'm happy to be called "anti-choice". Remember when Europe said "Never again!" after WW2? Neither do I.
Eventually, Maya makes the correct choice, her mom is still pissed and drags her in to watch a woman who has been in the throes of labor for 3 days. Unfortunately, they arrive just as the baby makes its arrival and Maya is just more convinced. So where is this rant going? The Weekly Standard currently has an article Mugged by Ultrasound describing how abortion workers are increasingly devestated and overwhelmed by the enormity of what they do, especially as medical technologies like ultrasound improve, and how many including the co-founder of NARAL, have left the industry and begun to advocate a pro-life stance.
The article mentions at one point:
WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT DISCUSSING ABORTION PROCEDURES!!!
Bernard Nathanson,[was] cofounder of the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, the orginal NARAL. In the early 1970s, Nathanson was the largest abortion provider in the Western world. By his own reckoning he performed more than 60,000 abortions, including one on his own child. Nathanson's exit from the industry was slow and tortured. In Aborting America (1979), he expressed anxiety over the possibility he was complicit in a great evil. He was troubled by ultrasound images. When he finally left his profession for pro-life activism, he produced The Silent Scream (1984), a documentary of an ultrasound abortion that showed the [unborn person] scrambling vainly to escape dismemberment.
And I begin to wonder to myself (somewhat rhetorically) if God would really condemn the murder of a person who does this. I mean He commands the Israelites to wipe out the Canaanites (who sacrificed their children to Molek) and I can't imagine they were worse than we are.
Anyway.
On a side note (stick with it, it's worth it): We were watching a video today in US History on the Constitution, etc. And the video starts to discuss gay rights and abortion and their origin within the right to privacy. So it goes on the long and convoluted path to arrive at this "right", relying mostly on the 4th Amendment and a guarantee of freedom from unreasonable search and seizures (don't you see - a right saying the cops have to have probable cause to search for evidence of a crime on your person or in your home becomes a right to murder babies and do other unspeakable things in the privacy of your doctor's office/your bedroom). The kids freaked out a little - it is a Christian school after all - but I said "hey, you need to know where people get their ideas, so you can correct them!"
Then I mentioned that if you take this right to "privacy" and to do whatever you want to/with your body far enough, we cannot legally stop Al Qaeda from stuffing bombs up peoples butts - as they've already done in Saudi Arabia, or in their underpants as they've done here - and trying to blow us all to smithereens.
I mean, it's their body! Keep Your Laws Off Their Body!!!
I'm justing waiting for some terrorist to arrive at this idea and try it in court. I'd love to see the reaction from the Loony Left. Sorry about the length.

you shouldn't be sorry about the length at all.
the difference, obviously, with the terrorist is that he or she destroys others as well as him or herself. where do my rights (to privacy, etc.) end and yours begin? when mine trample yours, that's how the thought goes. which takes it back to the crux of the matter - the left's refusal to see a fetus as a baby. because obviously a mother's rights trample her child's when she has an abortion, but the left turns a blind eye - "it's not a person, it's her body." the most ridiculous stance i've ever heard. how can someone with his own dna, own heartbeat, own fingerprints, own soul be the equivalent of a kidney or an appendix?? it makes me sick. how our country can continue to stick with such a disgusting view is beyond me.
